1.Dont kill the pets if possible,
2.Use Shadow of Fear and other AoE Hexes.
3.Use Ward agaisnt Melee, with Eruption for some damage and blindage.
4.Kill the N/Mo or Mo/N's in each group.

Remember..Its a warrior based team, and from my experiance playing as a warrior, theres enough counters to them then you can count.

Beating them even with a team of 4 mesmers, 3 monks and one necromancer (or 3 mesmers 3 monks 2 necromancers) proves to me how pathetic this build really is.
Theorectically a bunch of warriors with pets should just own the mesmers, in fact it was the other way around all the time.
why? because its retard warriors rushing in fashion once again.

Never seen iway holding the hoh also, anyone seen something different?

how to beat a stupid build thats not even good but just in fashion ... let me wink with some fences:
-melee necromancers (they get more from each dead pet than a warrior could ever get)
-illusion mesmers and water magic (they slow down foes and kill them slowly but for sure, and do no Aoe (kill pets last, wow what a hint))
-aegis
-blurred vision (or just another aegis)
-guardian
-smiting monks (Yes, monks smite, not elementalists)

i've held hoh with iway for the better part of an hour but seriously that means nothing. without any interruption or healing, the only way you can "hold" the hoh is to allow someone else to take it, and then use brute force to beat them away and hope your hero does not get interrupted in the last 10 seconds when you retake it. there aren't any "inferior" builds, there are just inferior players.

in my experience (only my experience!) these problems iway cannot overcome ->

1. conditions -> traps. no way to remove cripple, bleeding, blinding.
2. hexes -> AOE hexes like soothing images, shadow of fear, suffering.
3. ward against foes -> enough said

what problems iway CAN overcome using a necro mix

Aegis and other block/evade -> using warriors cunning to spike targets
Heal Balls -> well of profane + maelstrom
Disease -> using tainted flesh

hope that's simple enough answer for you.

its basicly a fame farming build and you can hold hoh a couple of times if know what you're doing.

Its actually pretty simple, IWAY was designed to beat smite, Think of smite as a million ants coming marching at you trying to kill you, one wont do much but a bunch of small damages over short periods of time will kill you more often then it wont. Think of IWAY as a big Giant stompy creature that walks all over the ants.
Now you want to kill this stompy giant creature, then what do you do? its easy, you think like a human, trap it, kill it, and eat it.

Control my friend, is what its all about when trying to beat IWAY, a single prot monk could do it, a few mesmers could do it, a suicide necro could do it, a ranger build could do it.
Monk --> Think Aegis + blessed Aura + Yakslapper = 17 second aegis
Mesmer --> That skill that stops all adrenaline everytime they attack
Suicide Necro --> Dark Aura + Death Nova + Sacrifice Spells, blow em all to hell
Rangers --> Distracting shot, savage shot, crippling shot, pindown

This is just the tip of the iceberg when thinking baout how to stop IWAY and its actually pretty easy to do, anyone who is successful in tombs knows that IWAY is a counter to smite and nothing more.

I have been playing iway for a while. Not because of fame farming - it´s not much anyway but simply because it is fun to me When I want to hold HoH longer or experiment with guild builds, I won´t play iway.
Iway can be countered for example wards and two - three meteor showers on warriors in your ward, meanwhile killing their necro and monk (if any).

was it really? because all the smite groups i've been in have always decimated IWAY quite easily. perhaps i was just in good smite groups vs. n00b IWAY groups?
